Here is an iconic Scouse boozer which Beatles-geeks still visit today (though
the Beatles connection is tenuous.) It’s thought Paul McCartney’s dad Jim was a
regular drinker here, calling in after finishing work at the nearby Cotton
Exchange. His sons Paul and Mike used to sit on these steps waiting for him.
It’s just a ten minute walk from the Liver
Buildings so I went to have look. I approached it from the back and it looks so
old I’m surprised it hasn’t been pulled down and replaced with a modern
soulless thing.
Paul's dad Jim was a widow at 40 years old after
his wife died of breast cancer. I can envision him having a couple of pints to
buoy up his spirits a bit.
It's only a few minute's walk from the Three
Graces so while there I thought I'd have a quick look.
