When I was in Scarborough I was
strolling on the beach on the North Bay and saw a young girl walking up and
down the beach with a bucket. This innocent sight would make for a painting. On the second picture you can see the photo I
taped to the cupboard door.
I
took the photos secretly because I didn’t want to get beaten to a pulp by her
parents. The painting was a little boring when I stepped back from it – all
that sea and sand - so I added a few items: a boat, lighthouse and some rocks.
I also added a small hat on the girl’s head as I struggled to get her face
right and a hat would put it in shade.
