Moon Over Stoodley Pike

Did you see the red moon on 21st January 2019? I did but –like the rest of Britain – when it was on the News At Ten the following day. It was too cloudy outside to see it live. As it wasn’t visible I thought I’d do a quick abstract painting. My dad was in Lanzarote for a week so I brought some paints downstairs to keep my hands busy (I’m sure I’ve got Attention Deficit Disorders as I can’t just watch television when I can be doing other things too.)

I blasted lots of horizontal lines across the canvas, stopping when Amy MacDonald was at the doctor’s surgery informing the doctor she was pregnant (she’s only 14! I didn’t know what women were till I was 23.) I waited for the main television news which would feature the blood red moon. It was dark by then so I simply smeared on some orange/red paint by torchlight. The following day I was wondering what to in the background. The distinctive shape of Stoodley Pike on the hills near Todmorden/Hebden Bridge would do, I thought. Again darkness came down so I was painting by torchlight again. The following day I added more detail to the pike and soon it was finished. It’s dry so I can post it to you later today. This baby can be on your wall tomorrow for £6488. I’ve attached photos of a walk up to Stoodley Pike.

The next lunar eclipse will be on 16th May 2022. I hope I will be alive then. Halley’s Comet is due in July 2061. I hope I will be alive then, too.
