One weekend I drove to central
Rochdale to find the former home of the disgraced MP Cyril Smith. Once in the hub
of the town you can't miss the tall tower blocks called The Seven Sisters. I
was chatting to a local man who said the blocks were "full of drunks and druggies.
If you torched them most crime in Rochdale would disappear overnight."
I've got some tiny canvas boards about five
inches long and was wondering what to paint onto them. I'd been painting
something big and had some blobs of excess paint. Instead of wasting it I
thought I'd quickly smear it on one of the boards using a knife. Here it is
done in about fifteen minutes - some tower blocks against an evening sky. I've
only just noticed but one block looks to be falling over; perhaps the drunks are
in that one.
